JOB DESCRIPTION: Waiting Staff
Reports to: Front of House Manager, or Head of Waiting Staff in Manager’s absence
Background: The Old school Restaurant is a well established family run business in its 30th year. We have built up a very good reputation locally which we take seriously, and we have a relatively low staff turnover. We pride ourselves on using the best quality ingredients, sourced locally wherever possible, providing great food and customer service, and treating our employees well.
Historically we open a week or 2 before Easter, and remain open 7 nights a week until the end of the 1st week of November, and then for long weekends through November and December. Although the initial contract would be for the core season April-end October , there is scope for extending the season into the winter months.
Summary of Position: Provide friendly, responsive service to create an excellent dining experience for all of our customers. Each waiting staff’s primary objective is to give customers such a good experience that they will want to return.
Full time waiting staff work 5 days/nights a week, most being in the dining room and potentially 1 on the bar making drinks for the dining room.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Welcome and greet customers
•Inform customers of menu changes and specials
•If asked make genuine recommendations
•Answer questions about our food, drinks, locality, business
•Work well under pressure and maintain a cheery disposition even when very busy.
•Take orders and relay to the kitchen
•Make and deliver drinks in a timely manner
•Make any cutlery changes necessary
•Perform pre-shift and end of shift tasks , also some dishwashing/cleaning tasks when necessary or quiet
•Be available to assist Front of House Manager in tasks when necessary
•Maintain clean service areas
•Observe customers dining experience. Ensure they are satisfied and respond promptly and courteously to any requests.
•Prepare bills, present bills, accept payment, handle cash/cards
•Be ready and willing to assist fellow staff members as situations arise
•Be ready to reset tables
•Thank customers for their visit
•Communicate effectively with the Kitchen staff to ensure good relations and smooth running.
•Attend staff meetings wherever possible
•Making drinks consistently and to our specification
•Be available to fill in gaps as needed to ensure the smooth running of the restaurant
•Be well presented
•Be aware and adhere to health and hygiene regs
•Be aware and adhere to health and safety regs
